WSL 2 strugglers Ipswich Town have added a player with Champions League experience to their ranks, with the signing of Colette Cavanagh from Deportivo de la Coruna.
Colette Cavanagh joins Ipswich Town after a short stint in Spain with Deportivo.
The 27-year-old joined Deportivo in the summer, but made just five appearances in all competitions.
Cavanagh told Ipswich’s official website: “I’m delighted to be joining what is an exciting project here.
“Everyone has been really friendly, and the infrastructure and facilities at the club are great.
“I would say I am a leader on and off the pitch, as well as a good communicator.
“One of my main strengths is also my aggressiveness, which is something I want to bring to the team when I’m involved here.”
The club’s technical director Sean Burt said Cavanagh’s quality has been “evident for many years.
He added: “Colette has been a clear standout in Scotland with a number of sides, winning multiple trophies along the way, and that was further proven by her move to Liga F.”
There has also been another big signing in the WSL 2, with Newcastle signing Emilia Larsson, following the expiry of her contract with Damallsvenskan side FC Rosengard.
While Cavanagh struggled in Spain, she enjoyed far better success in Scotland.
The midfielder played for Celtic, Hibernian and Rangers during her time in the Scottish Women’s Premier League.
Cavanagh won the League Cup with Hibernian in 2019 before playing in the Champions League the following season, scoring a brilliant individual goal on her debut.
She switched to Rangers in 2022, adding another League Cup and the City of Glasgow Women’s Cup to her collection.
Cavanagh enjoyed her best success at Celtic, who she joined for a third spell in 2023. She won the Scottish Women’s Premier League with Celtic in 2023-24, scoring five goals and registering four assists during their title-winning season.
The Scottish midfielder played for Celtic in the Champions League in both the 2023-24 and 2024-25 campaigns.
Ipswich will hope that Cavanagh can help turn around their fortunes after a difficult start to the 2025-26 campaign.
They have taken just five points from 11 games so far this season, with their only win coming back in September with a 3-2 triumph against Portsmouth.
Cavanagh will wear the No.21 shirt and will be available to play Bristol City on Sunday.
