Ibrahima Konate's incredible outfit for his arrival at the France squad's training base has prompted his Liverpool teammates to respond with their own fashion statements.

The in-form centre-back obscured his face with a fully zipped yellow hood as he rocked up at Clarefontaine this week, ahead of his country's Nations League games at home to Israel on Wednesday night and Belgium away next Monday.

Konate himself shared the image on his official Instagram account with a one-word caption: "Faceless."

Ryan Gravenberch was the first team-mate to reply, albeit by simply posting the thinking face. Trent Alexander-Arnold also used an emoji, the exhaling face, and Curtis Jones was similarly brief, using just three letters, "Wtf".

Meanwhile, Harvey Elliott was more positive, posting the fire symbol alongside the word "Yuh."

VAN DIJK SHOWS KONATE HOW IT'S DONE

It's clear that Konate has been learning on the pitch from his imperious centre-back partner Virgil van Dijk, in a season that has started with six clean sheets in 10 games for Arne Slot's men.

But after seeing his fellow defender's threads, it seems the Liverpool skipper also wants to teach him a thing or two off the pitch. As Alexis Mac Allister puts it in a reply to Van Dijk's fashion post on Instagram, "Serious guy, learn from the captain  @ibrahimakonate."

It seems Konate's bizarre appearance may have been poking fun at an international team-mate, Jules Kounde, who has developed a reputation for raising eyebrows with his attire whenever he links up with the France squad.

The Barcelona defender wore a skirt last month, having previously walked into Clarefontaine in a pair of heels.

"I think there's a bit of a competition going on between French players arriving for international duty," said New York Times journalist Rory Smith, when speaking on the BBC's Monday Night Club.

"Jules Kounde wears some pretty outlandish stuff, on the border between haute couture and humour, when he turns up for international duty. I don't know whether Konate is taking the mickey a little bit, but there's definitely a thing where they're turning up in weird clothes."

Smith's fellow pundit, the former Blackburn Rovers and Celtic forward Chris Sutton, opted to talk about Konate's performances for Liverpool instead and praise him for the way he's reclaimed a starting place from Jarell Quansah this season.

"I like the way he's taken his opportunity," said Sutton. "I've always thought that he has brilliant physical attributes, as Van Dijk has, and he's come to the fore. You can see the understanding in that partnership is getting stronger week in, week out."
