Wydad Athletic Club has terminated the contract of Ghanaian striker Samuel Obeng to facilitate the registration of their new signing, Botswana international Tumisang Orebonye, who recently joined from Libyan side Al Ittihad.

This decision stems from strict regulations imposed by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), which limit clubs to a maximum of five foreign players in their official squad. With the acquisition of Orebonye, Wydad had reached this quota, forcing the club to make a decisive choice in favor of the new arrival.

The club's foreign player roster already included Bart Meijers, Guilherme Ferreira, Stephane Aziz Ki, and Thembinkosi Lorch prior to this move.

The signing of Orebonye to a two-year contract, with an option for a third, directly led to Obeng's departure due to the limited foreign player slots.

The 28-year-old Botswana international is no stranger to Moroccan football, having previously played for Olympique Khouribga and FAR Rabat before achieving success with USM Alger—where he won the CAF Confederation Cup and CAF Super Cup. His move to Al Ittihad had been finalized only after his release clause was met.
