Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has revealed that he plans to hold a conversation with a member of his defensive ranks, following the club’s latest outing.
The player in question? Dani Carvajal.
Stopper Carvajal played his part on Tuesday night, as Real Madrid got their Champions League campaign up and running with a victory over Olympique Marseille.
Despite the eventual result, though, the clash proved one to forget for the 33-year-old.
After being introduced to proceedings off the bench for Trent Alexander-Arnold, Carvajal was later given his marching orders by way of a straight red card.
As much came owing to a needless headbutt on Marseille no.1 Gerónimo Rulli.
The Spaniard has since been singled out for heavy criticism for his actions, which put his teammates in a hugely challenging position on a high-profile European night.
In turn, it should not come as a major surprise to learn of Xabi Alonso preparing to sit down for a round of one-on-one talks with Carvajal.
Speaking to the media in the aftermath of his side’s latest victory, Real Madrid’s headmaster admitted:
“The red card was easily avoidable. We need to have a conversation.”
