With several first-team stars away on international duty, Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has had to call up some young talents from the Castilla and youth team ranks to make up numbers in training today.
And one of the players to have received a call-up, according to MARCA, happens to be teenage midfielder Jorge Cestero.
Cestero, 19, has been enjoying a breakthrough run with Castilla in recent weeks and is being considered the big sensation of the summer in Alvaro Arbeloa’s team.
Indeed, as per the report, many at the club see the midfielder as the undisputed MVP of the reserve side in the nearly two months they have been active.
The midfielder, untouchable for Arbeloa last season with Juvenil A, has now secured a place in Castilla’s starting eleven.
Cestero has started in six of the seven matches played so far – six friendlies and the league opener last Friday against Lugo – and has taken on a commanding role. The midfield talent even scored in the league opener.
Given his progress, Xabi Alonso already has Cestero on his radar and the teenage prospect got an opportunity to work under the first-team manager’s commands in training today.
Whether it translates into a bigger opportunity and a potential first-team debut in the weeks and months to come remains to be seen.
But for now, Cestero is very much on Alonso’s radars, along with several other Castilla talents such as Thiago Pitarch, who is now a regular in the first-team dynamics, Joan Martinez, Diego Aguado, and Manuel Angel.
