Xabi Alonso has done a great deal of service to Real Madrid when it comes to normalising the entry of young players into the first-team.
The Spaniard, working in tandem with Arbeloa, has not been afraid to give chances to academy products, with players like Thiago Pitarch, Gonzalo Garcia and Joan Martinez, who recently returned to first-team training, looking to make a breakthrough this season.
Now, it appears Xabi Alonso is keeping tabs on one more player in the form of Cesar Palacios.
As reported by AS, Palacios has caught the eye after an inspirational display for Castilla against Ponferradina that ended their four-match losing run.
Having battled through injuries and endured a lengthy recovery from a torn cruciate ligament suffered during his first-team debut in Chicago, the Soria native returned with a vengeance, scoring two goals and providing an assist in that crucial fixture.
Palacios’ ability to play across midfield, as an attacking midfielder and even as a false 9, has made him a player worth keeping an eye on and it seems Xabi Alonso certainly is.
The midfielder is equally comfortable using both feet, breaking lines with his speed, and excelling in combination play, making him an ideal option for Alonso.
The Real Madrid manager reportedly had his eyes on Palacios even during his time at Bayer Leverkusen, and now he has the option of calling him up whenever required.
As mentioned earlier, Alonso’s constant communication with Castilla manager Arbeloa has kept the door open for young talents, and Palacios, already a leader within the reserve side, looks ready to step up when needed.
