Xabi Alonso ‘ready to take over’ at Liverpool if Arne Slot leaves | OneFootball

Sport Bild reports that Liverpool have identified former Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso as their preferred successor to Arne Slot. The 44-year-old is said to be ready to take charge at the end of the season if a serious offer arrives and his conditions are met.

Alonso is said to want a say in transfers and squad planning. That authority was not granted in his most recent role at Real Madrid, which ended abruptly in January after six months in charge.

Current Liverpool manager Slot is expected to leave by the summer at the latest after an underwhelming campaign.

At the weekend, the defending Premier League champions lost 2-1 to Brighton & Hove Albion, their 10th league defeat of the season.

A former Bayern Munich player, Alonso led Bayer Leverkusen to their first ever Bundesliga title as head coach in the 2023/24 season.
