FC Barcelona manage to kick off things in La Liga with a much-needed win. However, things were far from pretty. Despite a promising start, Mallorca’s ultra-defensive strategy really managed to slow down things and make things scrappy. Fortunately, the game ended in a 3-0 victory for La Blaugrana.

Goals from Raphinha, Ferran Torres, and Lamine Yamal proved to make the difference for the Catalan giants, and Joan Garcia’s performance proved why his registration was so important. With three points secured, it is time to assess the players themselves.

Here are the player ratings for Hansi Flick’s team.

Player Ratings:

Joan Garcia: 8.5

Solid in between the sticks and always dealt with any shots that came his way. Also came off his line at the perfect time on multiple occasions, one of which even led to a Mallorca player getting sent off directly for a dangerous challenge.

Eric Garcia: 7.5

The Spaniard did his job well, and he was great in terms of most things he did. Defensively solid, passing was reliable, and he supported his teammates wherever possible.

Ronald Araujo: 7.0

Solid in terms of his defensive duels, even if he was not perfect in that regard. Moreover, his passing was surprisingly decent as well and he also did well whenever he had to carry the ball forward himself.

Pau Cubarsi: 7.5

Struggled a bit in terms of aerial duels, especially in the second half, but was solid apart from that. Passing was sharp and his awareness looked decent.

Alejandro Balde: 6.0

Not the best game for the young left-back, who clearly struggled in terms of providing the final pass. However, decent enough performance apart from that.

Frenkie de Jong: 7.5

The Dutchman was on another level in terms of his passing and influence on the ball, shrugging off any pressing players that came his way. Gave away a few fouls here and there, however.

Pedri: 8.0

A bit more reserved than usual, Pedri did what he needed to in various situations but did not force unnecessary passes. However, he tried to create some great opportunities but his Barcelona teammates could not make much out of them.

Lamine Yamal: 9.0

Dazzled with his dribbling in the first half, and also provided a great assist to Raphinha for the opening goal. It was thanks to his constant threat that a Mallorca player even ended up getting sent off early. Scored an incredible goal at the end as well.

Fermin Lopez: 6.5

A bit underwhelming during the first half, and he struggled with certain duels as well. Certainly had some bursts of intensity that were good to see, but he was the first to be taken off by Hansi Flick and did not play in the second half.

Raphinha: 8.0

Opened the scoring for Barcelona thanks to a well-timed run and a good header. Apart from that, made some good runs and was constantly arriving in good positions to help out his teammates. Needed to do better in terms of his finishing, however.

Ferran Torres: 8.0

Scored a brilliant goal despite all the commotion around it during the first half. Even apart from that, he put in a lot of effort throughout the game to continuously thwart Mallorca.

Substitutes:

Dani Olmo: 5.0

Really frustrating performance, ended up being wasteful with a lot of opportunities for Barcelona.

Jofre Torrents: 6.0

Made some good runs on the left flank and even delivered some passes into the box that should have been met with someone finishing them off.

Gavi: 7.5

Decent in terms of controlling the game, he also provided the assist for Lamine Yamal’s goal.

Marcus Rashford: 6.0

Looked eager, but could not make much of an impact.
