Diomande Expected to Leave, Liverpool Wait as Leipzig Star Speaks

Future Plans Surface During Tournament

Speculation surrounding Diomande has intensified after the RB Leipzig winger appeared to acknowledge that he is expected to leave the Bundesliga club this summer, despite public insistence from senior figures that he remains central to their plans.

The 19 year old only joined Leipzig from Leganes last summer, signing a deal until 2030. Since then, his rapid development has placed him among Europe’s most sought after young attackers, with Liverpool previously credited with interest in a deal that could have been worth around €100m. Leipzig, however, have remained firm in their valuation while exploring the possibility of extending his contract.

Leipzig Maintain Firm Public Position

Leipzig managing director Marcel Schafer has repeatedly stressed the club’s desire to keep the Ivory Coast international.

“Our clear intention is: Yan Diomande will play for RB Leipzig next year,” Schafer said. “In principle, we still have a four-year contract and hold all the cards. Therefore, the current developments are primarily a recognition of his performance. Nothing more and nothing less.

“And if we can’t find a solution, then we can’t, but he’ll still have a four-year contract. So, to reiterate: Yan Diomande will remain a Leipzig player.”

Those comments reflected the club’s strong negotiating position, with no immediate pressure to sell a player who remains under a long term agreement.

Player Comments Add Fresh Twist

While Leipzig continue to project confidence, Diomande offered a notably different perspective during a press conference before Ivory Coast’s World Cup meeting with Norway in Arlington, Texas.

“I don’t have Instagram anymore, so I’m not keeping up with anything, but I expect to go. I have an agent who takes care of the rest.”

Those remarks have inevitably fuelled further discussion over where the winger could play next season. Reports suggest Paris Saint Germain have emerged as his preferred destination, with the French champions viewed as an attractive option for his long term development.

Liverpool’s interest has also been widely reported throughout the summer. Whether the Merseyside club revisit negotiations could depend on Leipzig’s asking price and how the transfer market develops over the coming weeks.

Outstanding Season Raises Value

Diomande’s performances explain why interest continues to grow. Comfortable on either flank, he contributed 12 Bundesliga goals and nine assists in 33 league appearances, missing only one match because of international duty as Leipzig secured third place and another season of Champions League football.

If he does complete the move, Leipzig would be in line to receive the biggest transfer fee in the club’s history. For now, the public messages from club and player point in different directions, leaving Liverpool and other interested clubs waiting to see how one of the summer’s biggest transfer stories unfolds.
