Manchester United upgraded their attack last summer and have reaped the benefits of their investment so far. The Red Devils spent over £200 million on Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha and have subsequently improved their goalscoring record from last campaign.

United managed just 44 goals in the Premier League last season, with only Everton (42) and the three relegated teams scoring fewer in the top flight. Their poor form in front of goal was reflected by their disappointing 15th-place finish in the league.

This season, however, the Red Devils have scored 47 times already in 26 games and are fourth in the league table. While the attack has sizzled so far, there is a belief that United still lack a speedy left winger following the departures of Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho last summer.

A recent report relayed by The Peoples Person suggests RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande is on their wish list for the role.

Bundesliga’s rising star

Diomande joined Leipzig from Leganes last summer and has hit the ground running at the Red Bull Arena. He has already registered nine goals and six assists in 24 appearances across all competitions this season.

The 19 year old is a dribbler who knows his way to goal and has pace to burn, attributes that have endeared him to top clubs across Europe. It is believed that United will face competition from Liverpool, Manchester City and Bayern Munich in the race for Diomande, who is likely to cost €100 million.

In a recently circulated video, the Ivorian is seen speaking about his love for the Merseyside club, stating: “Yes, I do, I want to play at Anfield and I want to play for Liverpool. I’m a big fan of Liverpool. I’m a big fan of Liverpool because my father’s dream is to see me play at Anfield. So that’s my dream. You know, to fulfil my father’s dream is a dream for me too.”

His comments have ignited talk of a possible move to Anfield this year, and the player has now provided a clarification on the matter.

Settled at Leipzig

Speaking to BILD, as cited by Metro, Diomande said: “People made it out to be my dream club. But first and foremost, it’s my dad’s favourite club. It was always his great wish to see me there someday because he loves the atmosphere at Anfield.”

“He always raved about Steven Gerrard. I was too young to see him play. We didn’t even have a TV at home for a long time. I have a lot of respect for Liverpool, but my dream club right now is Leipzig.”

The Ivorian also addressed rumours linking him with a move to the Allianz Arena, adding: “It’s always nice to hear something like that. But I haven’t spoken to anyone from Bayern. It’s not the right time for that. I’m happy here in Leipzig and want to remain fully focused.”

Final Thoughts

Diomande could be a tremendous addition to United’s attack and could be the ideal replacement for Rashford on the left flank. With reports suggesting that the Red Devils have the funds to complete a deal, they cannot afford to miss out on the Ivorian.
