Yann-Benjamin Kugel, once with Schmidt at Benfica, joins Barcelona | OneFootball

Yann-Benjamin Kugel has joined Barcelona’s backroom team, linking up with head coach Hansi Flick.

According to Glorioso 1904, the German fitness coach previously worked under Roger Schmidt at Benfica between 2022 and 2024.

During that spell he played an important role in the squad’s conditioning, contributing to a standout first season that finished with the league title.

Kugel departs Lisbon with a championship medal and a Supertaça on his record, and now begins a new chapter at one of Europe’s most prestigious clubs.

At Barcelona he will focus on the physical preparation of the first team as part of Flick’s staff. The Catalans aim to compete on all fronts in the coming season.

The move marks another significant step in his career, drawing on experience gained across two seasons at Estádio da Luz.
