Sport reports that Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou has urged Real Madrid teenager Thiago Pitarch to consider representing the Atlas Lions.
Pitarch, 18, has broken into Real Madrid’s first team in recent months. On Saturday, Fabrizio Romano reported that the midfielder has confirmed his commitment to Spain.
Pitarch has played for Spain at youth level, though he is also eligible for Morocco. The Moroccans have pushed for a switch, hoping he might follow clubmate Brahim Diaz.
Bounou said Pitarch would be welcomed with open arms, noting he has family in both countries. He added that anyone with ties to Morocco is welcome, even more so if he is a Real Madrid player.
Earlier this week Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente said Pitarch remained committed to La Roja and voiced his satisfaction with that stance.
Morocco had looked to capitalise on Spain’s congested midfield, but that approach appears to have fallen short for now. Pitarch is targeting a senior Spain call-up in the near future, and the 2026 World Cup will likely come too soon, though there are sure to be chances ahead.
