“You have to change” – Marcus Rashford told how he can ensure Barcelona stay

Marcus Rashford has had a positive start to his Barcelona career, having joined in the summer from Manchester United. He arrived in the Catalan capital on loan, but he has already made it clear that he wants to stay on a permanent basis – and replicating performance like the one against Newcastle United last week would certainly help.

Rashford scored both of Barcelona’s goals in the 2-1 victory at St James’ Park, although he was unable to keep the momentum going after being benched for the weekend match against Getafe. He was projected to be a starter, but after arriving late to a pre-match training session, he was punished – as Hansi Flick has done with several players since his arrival.

Rashford’s tardiness did not go down well with England icon Alan Shearer, who made it clear that he cannot do that if we wants to stay at Barcelona, as per Sport.

“He was sensational against Newcastle. The second goal, in particular, was incredible. But you can’t be unprofessional. Why should everyone else be on time, but you’re late? It doesn’t matter if you’re two minutes late or 20 minutes late. You’re late, and your teammates have to wait for you.

“I guess if you want to stay there, particularly just on loan, you have to change, because when you’re at an important club like Barcelona, there will always be someone to take your place.”

Punishment should serve as lesson for Rashford

Rashford would have been aware of Flick’s punishment scheme for tardiness, but actually being affected by it will have surely woken him up. As stated by Shearer, he will not be allowed to get away with regularly doing this if he wants to remain as a Barcelona player for years to come, and that is where he differs for the rest of his teammates: their future is safe, his isn’t.
