Chelsea fans all over are trying to predict what Enzo Maresca is going to do with his defence tomorrow.
Trevoh Chalobah is suspended; Levi Colwill, Tosin Adarabioyo and Wesley Fofana are all injured. That means we’re almost certain to see Benoit Badiashile in the middle tomorrow.
After a sub appearance last weekend then almost a full game on Tuesday he should be fit – although obviously only for these emergency circumstances.
On the London is Blue podcast they speculated about who would partner the Frenchman. Josh Acheampong, who is natural on the right; or Jorrel Hato, who is more of a left back but got the nod ahead of Acheampong last week.
“I wonder if it’s going to be Josh,” said Dan Dormer
“Because if something were to happen to Marc Cucurella, then if Hato’s out there playing and Badiashile’s out playing and Hato were to get injured, then we have zero depth at left back.”
Their analyst CFC Central had another take:
“He brought on Acheampong rather than Hato for Badiashile [in midweek] so – was he warming up Josh after that mistake, or was he keeping Hato fresh? That’s something I find very hard to predict. But considering it’s a left and right combo I think it makes natural sense to have Acheampong there.”
You can see their discussion in the clip embedded here:
This should be the last time we’re stretched this thin for a while – Chalobah’s suspension is just one game, so after the international break we could feasibly have him, plus Tosin plus Fofana plus Badiashile plus Acheampong all fit. Then Hato and Cucurella at left back.
We just have to survive this one game against one of the most dangerous attacks in the league… it should be a fascinating game.
