Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and PSG were among the teams competing in the tournament, held at Chelsea's Cobham Training Centre.

United knocked the hosts out on penalties at the semi-final stage, with goalkeeper Lucas Flack the hero. They had topped Group A, recording victories over Manchester United - Ghanem and Jack Skelton on target - and Crystal Palace, with Ghanem netting again and Charlie Robinson scoring a hat-trick.

"What an incredible achievement from all of the players and staff involved," added Harper. "To emerge as deserved winners in a competition featuring many of the elite youth academies of not only the Premier League but Europe too, reflects a huge amount of effort from every department at the Academy.

"The boys gave absolutely everything in every minute of every game. An enormously proud day for everyone connected to the Academy and football club."
