Barcelona are on the market for a new striker to replace Robert Lewandowski and have been linked with several high-profile players across Europe.
Brazilian striker Joao Pedro is one of several names mentioned, but Barcelona director Deco has shut down rumours linking the La Liga champions with a move for the forward.
Speculation about Pedro’s potential move to Barcelona has gathered pace over the past few weeks, with reports claiming the Blaugranas are even plotting a stunning €100 million (£86m) move.
However, Deco has vehemently denied any links to Pedro, although the Barcelona director maintained that the club are still in the process of replacing Lewandowski.
When asked about rumours linking Pedro to Barcelona, Deco told Marca: “You’re mistaken about Joao Pedro. It’s a somewhat sad day because Robert’s [Lewandowski] departure is now official.
“It’s almost impossible to replace Robert, the best striker of recent years.
“At Barcelona, it’s difficult to replace players, but that’s football. Ferran came as a winger and has become a number 9. It’s time to make decisions and strengthen the team.”
Lewandowski is set to call time on his four-year spell at Barcelona at the end of the season.
The Polish legend has already been linked with a move to Serie A, with AC Milan making their interest known. Clubs in Saudi Arabia and Major League Soccer are also in the mix.
Meanwhile, Barcelona have been linked with big money moves for Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane and Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez, who appears to be the club’s primary target.
Pedro is reportedly open to joining Barcelona just one year after his £60m move to Chelsea.
The 24-year-old’s omission from Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad has been a major talking point over the past few days, especially considering the season he’s had.
Pedro carried a massively underwhelming Chelsea squad on his back, racking up 15 Premier League goals. He also scored 20 times in 49 games across all competitions.
That form has sparked Barcelona’s interest, but Chelsea are determined to hold on to their prized asset this summer, especially with Xabi Alonso coming in.
