According to Diario Do Peixe, Zé Rafael has been training normally at CT Rei Pelé after an ankle sprain and could bolster Santos against Palmeiras. The match is on Saturday 2 at 18:30 at Allianz Parque in the 14th round of the Brasileirão.
He suffered the injury in the goalless draw with Coritiba at Vila Belmiro last Wednesday 22, the first leg of the fifth phase of the Copa do Brasil. Having come on after 18 minutes of the second half, he sprained his ankle following a sliding challenge.
He then underwent treatment in-house and missed Santos’s last two games, the 2-2 draw with Bahia at Fonte Nova in the league on Saturday 25, and the 1-1 draw at San Lorenzo in Argentina in the Sul-Americana on Tuesday 28.
His return would give the coaching staff another midfield option alongside Schmidt, Arão and Oliva, who remain available.
Meanwhile, Gustavo Henrique has sustained a left adductor muscle injury. Gabriel Menino is also recovering from a muscle problem in the posterior area of his right thigh.
This year, Zé Rafael has one goal and one assist across 11 matches. He set up a goal against Chapecoense and scored versus São Paulo, both in the Brasileirão where he has four appearances. He has featured five times in the Paulistão, and once each in the Copa do Brasil and the Sul-Americana.
