Zico reassures fans after Japan earthquake, says all are fine | OneFootball

Flamengo icon Zico has reassured fans after an earthquake in Japan, where he lives and works. According to Globo.com, the tremor struck the city of Kashima in Kumamoto province in the south.

Although the city shares a name with Kashima, it is not related to Kashima Antlers, the club where he works. Zico said in a video message that he is based in Hokkaido in the north, far from the affected area.

He thanked supporters for their concern, expressed sympathy for those affected, and said Japan’s infrastructure means recovery should come quickly. He added that he and those around him were safe, calm and without concerns.

A magnitude 7.1 quake hit on Tuesday 28, damaging buildings and homes and causing landslides. The latest update put the death toll at 13, with hundreds injured and seven people still missing.

The most serious incident was at the Aeon Mall in Kashima, where a powerful explosion followed the quake and aerial images showed a partial collapse.
