John Divers scored twice

ONE – SATURDAY 10 FEBRUARY 1894 – Celtic take a big step towards their second League Championship with a devastating 5-1 defeat of St.Mirren at Celtic Park with two goals from John Divers and one each from Jimmy Blessington, Sandy McMahon and Johnny Campbell. Willie Maley plays, but under the pseudonym of “Montgomery” his mother’s maiden name, because he fears that his employers in the drapers’ trade might disapprove of professional football! Or do they disapprove of the Celtic club?

TWO – WEDNESDAY 10 FEBRUARY 1926 – Rugby Park, Kilmarnock is clearly a bogey ground for Celtic these days, for Celtic have won there only once since the War. Today, for once this season, the forward line of Connolly, Thomson, McGrory, McInally and McLean fails to function and Celtic go down 1-2, the goal coming from a Willie McStay penalty. It is the first defeat since October, but they will not lose another game in the League this season.

Davie Hay scored (1974, below)

THREE – SUNDAY 10 FEBRUARY 1974 – There seems little doubt that Dundee have the “hex” on Celtic these days. They beat Celtic in the League Cup final in December, and today they come to Parkhead and win 2-1, with Celtic’s only goal coming from Davie Hay. The country is in the middle of a General Election campaign caused by the Miners’ Strike and the Three Day Week, hence the reason why this game was played on a Sunday. Celtic have now lost two League games in a row, and although they are still ahead in the League, the danger signals are up.

FOUR – SUNDAY 10 FEBRUARY 2008 – Barry Robson scores a goal for Celtic with his first kick of the ball for his new club. It is a free-kick at Pittodrie and the team are already 4-1 up, the goals having come from Shunsuke Nakamura, Aiden McGeady and two from Scott McDonald, one of which was a penalty. The game finishes 5-1.

FIVE – WEDNESDAY 10 FEBRUARY 2010 – A somewhat uninspiring 2-0 win for Celtic over Hearts tonight at Parkhead with the goals coming within a minute of each other just after half time. Much had been expected of on-loan star Robbie Keane, but he failed to deliver tonight, the goals coming from Glenn Loovens and Marc-Antione Fortune. The attendance is a slightly disappointing 44,000.
