115 years ago, Corinthians celebrated their first ever victory

This Sunday, the 14th, Corinthians celebrates one of its most important historical milestones, even though it is no longer as remembered by the fans. On a day like today, but 115 years ago, the then newly-founded club celebrated the first of its more than three thousand victories already achieved on the field.

The match took place just five days after the first game in Corinthians' history, which happened on September 9, 1910, and was won by União da Lapa by 1-0. In their second appearance, Corinthians faced Estrela Polar, and this time they secured a 2-0 victory, with goals from Luiz Fabbi and Jorge Campbell.

On that day, the Corinthians team that achieved the club's first victory took the field with Valente; Police, Perrone, Atílio, and Lepre; Alfredo, João da Silva, Jorge Campbell, and César Nunes; Joaquim Ambrósio and Luiz Fabbi. Coach Rafael Perrone. The game was played at Campo Varzeano, also known as Campo do Lenheiro, on the old Rua dos Imigrantes in Bom Retiro.

Luiz Salvatore Fabbi, an Italian born on May 2, 1890, in the city of Parma, scored the first goal in Corinthians' history and forever marked his name in the club. Luiz Fabbi played only one year for Timão. Unsatisfied with losing his position in the starting team, he transferred to Palestra Itália in 1915.

The other goal in the first match was scored by Jorge Campbell who, interestingly, only scored this goal during his time at Corinthians. Campbell participated in only six matches wearing the Timão jersey (four wins, one draw, and one loss).

According to accounts from the book “Coração Corinthiano” by Lourenço Diaférria, the first victory was celebrated with a lot of beer in front of Alfonso Desidério's confectionery, the place where the club was founded two weeks earlier.
