FLW looks at those who could depart Hull City in January

Player turnover at Hull City has been a constant theme in the last couple of seasons.

That continued into the current campaign, as Tim Walter saw 17 new additions move to East Yorkshire, as well as 19 permanent departures across his first transfer window in charge of the Tigers.

A number of those signings have proved their worth instantly, despite an inconsistent start to the campaign which, in truth, many would have been anticipating despite owner Acun Ilicali's well-publicised and lofty ambitions.

However, that has led to further uncertainty over the short and long-term future that concerns a handful of the current crop at the MKM Stadium.

And with that in mind, Football League World looks at a trio of players who could be facing the exit door, for varying reasons, in the upcoming January transfer window.

Ryan Longman

Ryan Longman's future Hull City career has been discussed on multiple occasions, but an exit in the upcoming transfer window does also come with a hint of misfortune.

The former Brighton and Hove Albion man showed great signs of promise during an initial loan spell under Grant McCann back in the 2021/22 campaign, with a collection of memorable strikes against Bristol City, Bournemouth and Everton to boot.

However, since signing a three-and-a-half year permanent deal in January 2022, Longman has struggled to find a consistent pattern of performances in Black and Amber, before returning to a relatively strong vein of form during his loan spell at Millwall last season following Neil Harris' re-appointment - which included scoring the club's Goal of the Season against Leicester City

Despite interest from the Lions, Derby County, Birmingham City and Wrexham, Longman was an impressive performer in Walter's pre-season plans, but would miss the chance to continue such form in the Championship after dislocating his shoulder in the final non-competitive outing against Reading.

And, given the form showcased by new signings such as Liam Millar and Mohamed Belloumi, whilst also having the services of Abu Kamara to call upon, it's hard to see where the 23-year-old gets a consistent run of minutes at this moment in time.

With his contract expiring in June, the January window provides an earlier opportunity for Longman to seek a new challenge, and for City to gather some funds for his services.

Carl Rushworth

Carl Rushworth's predicament in East Yorkshire is certainly an intriguing one, as in any other circumstance, it would seem ridiculous for the Tigers to terminate a loan agreement for such a highly-regarded goalkeeper at Championship level.

The Brighton loanee was a standout performer for Swansea City last term, scooping a duo of awards at the South Wales' side's post-season ceremony, which was backed up by the prevention of a further 4.02 goals - only bettered by three of his divisional counterparts - and a strong save percentage of 70.9%.

However, Ivor Pandur - who only made his competitive bow for City in August - has been in exceptional form in the opening 11 games of the season, which was proven by his outstanding performance in the 3-1 win against Queens Park Rangers on October 1st, as well as making a total of 3.5 saves per game on average.

Furthermore, it was revealed by Football Insider that Rushworth - who the publication stated was set to start against Sunderland after the international break - suffered an ankle injury, which could leave him sidelined for up to ten weeks.

Regardless of Rushworth's quality at this level, Hull's goalkeeping union is extremely strong, and a player of such ability can't afford to be taking up a loan spot without featuring week in, week out.

So, it may not come as a major surprise if Brighton opted to recall the 23-year-old and enhance his development elsewhere post-injury.

Harry Vaughan

It has been debated among City supporters that Harry Vaughan isn't quite of the standard required to feature regularly in the second tier at present.

Therefore, another loan move in January would be the best scenario for the 20-year-old who made his first-team breakthrough under Liam Rosenior in the late stages of the 2022/23 season.

After signing a three-year contract last year and making eight appearances for the Tigers, Vaughan was sent out on loan to Bristol Rovers, but struggled to make an impression at the Memorial Stadium - failing to record a single goal contribution in 11 appearances.

Gas boss Matt Taylor then issued his verdict on Vaughan's predicament, stating that another loan move to a side who utilise a different play-style could prove to be beneficial for the Republic of Ireland youth international's overall development, which many would agree with.
