Every season the third round conjures up some appetising and unfamiliar duels but only 32 teams could secure safe passage to the fourth round.

Liverpool, who last won the competition in 2021/22, eased into the fourth round with their 4-0 win over League Two outfit Accrington Stanley. Trent Alexander-Arnold starred after a difficult week for the right-back and Federico Chiesa scored his first goal for the club.
Chelsea produced a similarly high-scoring win over League Two opposition, beating Morecambe 5-0 at Stamford Bridge. Braces from Tosin Adarabioyo and Joao Felix secured an emphatic victory, and the Blues will be joined by Bournemouth, Leicester City, Brighton & Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest in the fourth round.
The biggest surprise of Saturday's FA Cup fixtures was Plymouth Argyle's 1-0 victory away at Brentford. Morgan Whittaker scored the winner in the Pilgrims' final match before Miron Muslic takes charge from recently dismissed Wayne Rooney.
