An insight into the extent of the financial sacrifice made by Clément Lenglet to bring his Barcelona stint to a permanent close has on Monday been provided.
The name of defender Lenglet has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital across the day to date.
This comes after the Frenchman’s long-touted departure was at last confirmed.
After Barcelona first announced that Lenglet’s contract had been terminated with immediate effect, Atlético Madrid swiftly unveiled the former Sevilla man as their latest signing:
And in the process, Lenglet did the board at the Camp Nou a massive favour.
This comes amid further confirmation that the 29-year-old agreed to forgo the entirety of his considerable Barcelona wage packet through the summer of 2028.
As per a report from Mundo Deportivo:
‘Barça has saved around €32 million gross in the final three years of the center-back’s contract.’
This marks the second occasion on which Lenglet has showed his class courtesy of a monetary gesture to the Blaugrana, after previously agreeing to spread this €32 million across three years instead of the originally agreed two.
A deed which should be greatly appreciated by Barca’s board, players and fans alike.
