A player has revealed that he was desperate to join Chelsea after holding conversations with the manager, yet at that time, a move did not happen.

It was actually quite a big and public story at the time, with many of us hearing all about it, and it was a story that I personally remember splitting the opinions of Chelsea fans, as these transfer rumours so often do.

EXCLUSIVE! Premier League club make enquiry to sign Chelsea player that could lead to swap deal seeing striker going the other way!!

Chelsea were trying to buy Anthony Gordon from Everton in 2022, but the deal did not happen. In the end, Gordon ended up making his permanent move to Newcastle for £45million in the winter of 2023, and that was that.

But it sounds like it was the manager at the time, Thomas Tuchel, who was the biggest appeal for the England international.

Tuchel had talks with Gordon

Gordon was very close to joining Chelsea

It seems Tuchel took the matter into his own hands, as Gordon said: “I spoke to him after the game, when I played for Everton and we played Chelsea.

“I spoke to him after the game when I shook his hand. That was about it. He said some really complimentary things to me, which I’ll keep to myself. But, yeah, I spoke to him and I felt a lot of warmth from him, which then made me really want to play for him. I didn’t get that chance.

“It was quite close to be honest. I was desperate to go at the time and work with him, especially. I felt like my style would suit his style of play, the way he was playing at Chelsea which was very exciting for me. It was a big opportunity for me that didn’t end up happening and I’m looking forward to getting to work with him a couple of years later.”
