Sunderland are weighing cut-price moves for players in the final year of their contracts as they prepare for the Europa League. According to Sunderland Echo, five names fit that brief.
Chelsea interest in captain Granit Xhaka has dominated after he helped Regis Le Bris’ side clinch Europe in his first season. Fans now await arrivals.
Southampton’s Shea Charles looks set for a Premier League move this summer. He reportedly drew an unsuccessful Leeds United bid after impressing for club and Northern Ireland. At 22, his tenacity and use of the ball stand out.
Girona’s Arnau Martinez, a 12-times capped Spain Under-21, was relegated from La Liga last season. The 23-year-old wing-back has more than 200 senior games and featured in the 2024/25 Champions League against PSG, Arsenal and Feyenoord.
With Robin Roefs attracting interest after a standout debut, a goalkeeping contingency makes sense. Olympiakos’ Konstantinos Tzolakis, 23, is a nine-times capped Greece international who kept 23 clean sheets in 43 outings as AEK Athens edged the title.
Lorient midfielder Arthur Avom has been linked with Wearside and other Premier League clubs after impressing in Ligue 1. The 14-times capped Cameroon international offers positional flexibility, which could help Sunderland as they return to European competition for the first time since 1973.
Bayern Munich’s Arijon Ibrahimovic is a twice-capped Germany Under-21. The 20-year-old has four senior appearances and loans at Lazio, Frosinone and Heidenheim, is in his final year, and has interest from England, Italy and the Netherlands.
