Manchester United have released the first phase of fan consultation on the future of Old Trafford, with younger fans leaning towards a redevelopment of the current stadium.
More than 50,000 fans took part in the survey. They include Season Ticket holders, United Members, and Executive Club members.
It was the highest engagement rate of any fan research conducted by the club, which doesn’t come as a surprise since the topic is important to us all. I thought the club deserved credit for surveying because they’ve done so much behind our backs under the Glazer ownership.
The results show that a new stadium at Old Trafford is the preference for the majority (52%) of fans, as per ManUtd.com. Another 31% of the vote opted for redevelopment of the existing stadium, with a further 17% declaring themselves unsure.
Season ticket holders showed the strongest support for a new-build stadium, but United have delayed their decision until next summer. The Task Force is expected to deliver their review of the situation at the end of next month.
The survey also shows that younger fans lean more towards redeveloping Old Trafford. These results will help the club understand what the fans are calling for, and the survey itself was very detailed allowing fans to give in-depth details.

Rick McGagh, Director of Fan Engagement, said: “We are delighted that this survey received the most responses in the club’s history. It shows how important this work is, and to have this level of engagement at this stage is a really positive place to start.
“We know how important our home is to fans and we need to listen to them and gain all their views and insights in order to develop the world-class stadium they deserve.
“We are able to view the results through different lenses to understand if our season ticket holders feel differently about anything than say our official members. And if younger fans have different views to older fans. This insight is incredibly helpful and allows the project team to understand the differences as well as the commonality in our fanbase.”
Hundreds of fans are expected at Old Trafford for a number of Town Hall sessions to understand more about the prokect today and tomorrow.
