Liam Rosenior has just taken his press conference after Chelsea’s defeat to Brighton, and it’s fair to say he’s not happy.
He blamed the defeat on a total lack of commitment from his players, and illustrated that with some chilling stats. His team have been bad for weeks, and we’ve seen the enthusiasm from the squad fading, but today was a new low without doubt.
“We lost 80% of duels. We didn’t win a header,” the young coach said.
“Two of the goals come when we can head the ball, the basics of football, and we don’t. At any level, if you make those errors and lack of engagement to the game, you’re not going to win games of football.”
That’s also what makes this whole thing so painful for the fans. We can all take losing when we put up a fight. When we see a team go out and play that’s already resigned to a defeat before a ball is kicked, that’s when we can’t tolerate any more.
You can see Rosenior give his answer in the clip embedded here:
Rosenior openly blamed his players for the poor performance last night, the first time he’s really done that.
On Sky Sports, Gary Cahill agreed with Rosenior, saying players had “let him down.”
