‘A high risk’ – Barcelona star ruled out of Villarreal clash | OneFootball

La Liga giants Barcelona will be forced to make do without the contributions of midfield standout Pedri in their upcoming showdown with Villarreal.

As much was confirmed by manager Hansi Flick on Saturday.

Spanish international Pedri was for his part a notable absence from group training in Catalunya’s capital over recent days.

This came owing to a niggling fitness complaint.

Speaking during his latest press conference this afternoon, Hansi Flick was therefore inevitably drawn on the status of his engine room leader for the weekend.

And the German tactician went on to explain:

“Pedri is out for the game tomorrow. He has discomfort in his quadriceps, there’s a high risk of injury and losing him for 2 months. We won’t take the risk. He’ll be available for the Espanyol game.”

Barcelona are of course primed to close out their fixture list for 2025 on Sunday.

A trip to high-flying Villarreal lies in wait for the reigning Spanish champions, who currently sit eight points clear of the Yellow Submarine, but with the latter boasting two games in hand.
