There are a host of positions that Manchester City will need to address throughout the January transfer window and in the summer. The world champions appear to be heading into a rebuild and will likely be big players in the transfer market. One position City could look to reinforce is left-back. Manchester City have Josko Gvardiol who is Pep Guardiola’s first choice in the role. But a Juventus full-back has reportedly caught City’s eye and he could fill a void in Manchester City’s squad down the line.
Left-back has long been a position that Manchester City haven’t deployed a specialist in. Josko Gvardiol and Nathan Ake primarily are deployed in the role by Pep Guardiola. We saw Nico O’Reilly step into the position and shine during City’s recent 8-nil win over Salford City. So there is a case for the world champions to add a left-back either in January or next summer. That would give the City squad a more rounded look. Now, a new report indicates that Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso is a player Manchester City is interested in.
Matteo Morreto has reported via X that Manchester City are monitoring Andrea Cambiaso. Morreto adds that Cambiaso is also tempted by the prospect of playing under Pep Guardiola. But Moretto adds that Andrea Cambiaso is considered an important player by Juventus. Lastly, it is also reported by Moretto that at this stage there has been no contact between Manchester City and Juventus over a possible deal for the Juventus full-back.
Andrea Cambiaso does appear to be a player who could add what Manchester City need in their squad. This season he has played primarily at left-back for Juventus. But he can also play at right-back which means his versatility could be a handy asset. He is also a quality player outside of his versatility. Cambiaso is a weapon going forward and his delivery from out wide is a feature of his play. He is also fit and athletic meaning he can get forward on the overlap and get back defensively. Cambiaso can also play as an inverted full-back so his skillset does seem to be suited to playing for Manchester City. He is sound defensively but he can be caught out on occasions when he gets forward. But all told, he is a player who could add to Pep Guardiola’s squad if Manchester City did move for the Italian defender.
It remains to bewilleen if Manchester City do pursue a move for Andrea Cambiaso. But it is obvious to see why City would be monitoring his progression and performances. Pep Guardiola’s squad could do with another full-back and Andrea Cambiaso may be a player they look to make a move for either this month or next summer.
