With the amount of quality centre-backs that Manchester City have, it is hard to see Max Alleyne establishing himself in City’s first team next season. Competition in Enzo Maresca’s team’s defence will be fierce. Alleyne showed last season when he returned to City in January from his loan spell at Watford that he has the makings of a quality defender. However, he isn’t at that level just yet.

It has now been reported that Max Alleyne is likely to be sent out on loan for the 2026-27 season. If the young defender can play regularly and continue to grow as a player it could well set him up for an opportunity to play regularly at Manchester City.

Manchester City are likely to send Max out on loan once again.

Simon Bajkowski has provided an update for Manchester Evening News on what Manchester City have planned for Max Alleyne for the 2026-27 season. It is reported that City are considering a host of clubs in the Championship who are eager to sign Alleyne on loan for next season. Furthermore, Bajkowski reports that Alleyne will report for Manchester City’s preseason training which begins in two weeks and he could also feature in City’s tour of Asia. The expectation is that Alleyne will secure a loan move for next season during the latter stages of this summer’s transfer window.

If Max Alleyne has another successful loan spell, it may set him up for an opportunity at City.

During the first half of the 2025-26 season, Max Alleyne grew as a player during his loan spell at Watford. Alleyne became a key component of Watford’s defence and his impressive performances earned him a recall to Manchester City in January. Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol suffered serious injuries during that period and Max Alleyne stepped up in Manchester City’s hour of need. Alleyne showed enough on the pitch for City to suggest he can become a serious player for them.

The young centre-back now needs the opportunity to play regularly to further his development. Spending a season on the periphery of the City first team will not aid Max Alleyne’s growth as a player. A loan to a quality Championship side would be the best move for Max Alleyne. That way he can continue to progress as a defender and hopefully set himself up for an opportunity at Manchester City.

Max Alleyne seems destined to go out on loan for the 2026-27 season. That is exactly what the impressive young defender needs and hopefully he can secure the right loan move which allows him to continue his impressive rise.
