Wieke Kaptein’s first half goal for Chelsea was enough to settle the tie at The Joie Stadium.
Speaking to the media after the match, Manchester City boss Jeglertz highlighted positives to take from the loss.
“I think we definitely deserved more than a one-goal loss,” Jeglertz said. “Of course we’re here to compete for titles, we can’t win this one now which is a big disappointment but I think tomorrow when we take one step back and look at the game, there’ll be lots we can be proud of. How many chances we had, how good we pressed, a lot of things we can bring with us from this game that we can hopefully use [going forward].”
Going on to discuss the defeat further, Jeglertz commented on the mixed emotions that come from a game like this.
He said “You can lose in different ways and it’s more like an empty feeling that we did everything we could and unfortunately, it wasn’t enough.
“We put all our effort in and I’m proud of that, that we really tried. Unfortunately, they scored and we didn’t, but if the performance were bad and you felt ‘wow there were things to do’, it’s much harder. Now, when you sit here being disappointed to lose but ‘wow how far have we come this season, what a confident team we have of how we play and create, winning duels and so on’, that’s the part you bring even if there is a loss.”
A rare defeat on home soil is tough for Manchester City to take but Jeglertz said that The Cityzens never changed their mindset or lost belief.
He said “There was so much belief that we would turn this game around. Just at half-time, speaking to the players, the feeling was that we were not going to lose this game. I think that’s what I am most proud of, that this [mindset] is there and has not changed after the game either, even though they are disappointed.
“A confident team is something that’s built for a long time and we have done that now over many games in the league and in the different cups, so I think we’re in a very good place.”
Manchester City are next in action when they travel to London City Lionesses on Sunday afternoon.
