Mohamed Salah is LEAVING Liverpool.
The Egyptian King made the announcement on his social media channels earlier this week. Although contracted until 2027 the Premier League champions have agreed to terminate the 33-year-old’s deal one year early.
It leaves the two-time African footballer of the year free to choose his next club - with the lack of a transfer fee surely bringing plenty of clubs to the table.
If it’s a question of money then Salah will be heading to Saudi Arabia. Al-Ittihad and Al-Qadsiah are reported to be front of the queue for Salah’s signature and there is interest in the forward from MLS too.
Initially it was thought that no major European clubs would come to the table for Salah - but that could be about to change.
A report in Sports Boom claims that a romantic return to Roma could be on the cards for Salah - even if it was just for one season.
Salah joined Liverpool from the Italian capital club back in 2017 for a £34m fee - going on to achieve great things at Anfield. But Salah is also beloved of Roma supporters - winning the 2015/16 player of the season award.
That season he spent on loan at the Stadio Olimpico before completing his permanent transfer from Chelsea. At Roma he scored 34 goals in 83 matches and there is a big motivation for the Giallorossi to bring him back to Serie A.
“A return to former club Roma is a potential option, even for one year,” the report reads.
“They see the recruitment of Salah as a major statement of intent.”
The finances involved would no doubt be sky-high and likely unaffordable to Roma in ordinary circumstances. But they are fortunate that top-earner Paulo Dybala is set to exit this summer.
That could open up a spot in the budget for Salah. Dybala earns a reported €250k per week for Roma - a long way short of the numbers Salah could command elsewhere.
It would take a financial sacrifice for Salah to return to Italy but it could do as a useful tide-over before moving to Saudi Arabia as scheduled in 2027.
