AC Milan and Cagliari played out a 1-1 draw on matchday 20 of the 2024/25 Serie A season. The Rossoneri took a 51st-minute lead through Álvaro Morata, but the Sardinians responded almost immediately with a goal from Nadir Zortea four minutes later. It was a match where the Rossoneri created numerous chances but failed to fully make the most of their dominance out on the pitch. The result thus leaves a slightly bitter taste in the mouth, especially after the joy of winning the Supercoppa in Riyadh. Lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, the Rossoneri imposed themselves on their opponents from the get-go, leading to several promising situations.
Things were heading in the right direction after Morata's finish shortly after the restart, but there was barely any time for the Diavolo to consolidate their advantage following Cagliari's equaliser on the counter. Despite controlling possession and carving out numerous chances - Pulisic and Abraham had the standout opportunities in the second half - the Rossoneri failed to find the winning goal. Determination and spirit certainly weren't lacking, but there is certainly considerable room for improvement. We now sit on 28 points ahead of our rearranged matchday 19 clash away to Como on Tuesday at 18:30 CET.

MATCH REPORT AC Milan began the game aggressively as they looked to gain control, with various players getting into promising positions. In the 14th minute, Theo saw his first-time strike fly narrowly over the bar. Pulisic and Reijnders both had attempts after the 15-minute mark, but Caprile was in place to save on both occasions. Cagliari threatened in the final ten minutes of the first half, first through Viola, who was thwarted by a last-ditch intervention by Calabria, and then through Felici, whose right-footed effort was tipped over by Maignan. The teams headed back to the changing room with the score at 0-0.
AC Milan made a strong start to the second half, hitting the bar through Pulisic in the 47th minute. Then came the opening goal, with Morata scoring on the follow-up after Pulisic had struck the post. However, Cagliari responded quickly through Zortea, whose right-footed shot from distance slipped under Maignan (55'). The Rossoneri went back on the attack and were foiled by Caprile, who kept out efforts from Pulisic and then Abraham on the counter. Tammy also diverted the ball over the bar from close range as the team failed to find a winner. It finished 1-1, with no shortage of regrets at the full-time whistle.
