Now, a new report indicates that City are currently doing background checks on Ait-Nouri. Perhaps the Wolves left-back could be the player Manchester City is looking to sign to fill a void in their squad this summer.

Srinivas Sadhanand has relayed a report from Graeme Bailey for TBR Football that Manchester City are conducting background checks on Rayan Ait-Nouri. Furthermore, the TBR Football report indicates that this is a precursor to a potential move from Manchester City for Ait-Nouri. Sadhanand further reports that Wolves could sell Ait-Nouri if their £40 million asking price is met.

A move from Manchester City for Rayan Ait-Nouri could prove to be a shrewd piece of business. The reported transfer fee of £40 million doesn’t appear to be a significant outlay for a player of his quality. Ait-Nouri is only 23 years of age and is a Premier League-proven player. That is one benefit of City potentially moving for the Algerian international.

As a player, Ait-Nouri is an attacking left-back. He can play as a left-back or as a wing-back. His dribbling ability is a stand-out feature of his play and forms the basis of his play. But it isn’t the only strong attribute of his play. There is a versatility to the play of Ait-Nouri. He can play as a traditional overlapping full-back or invert into midfield. Both of those traits could appeal to Pep Guardiola and Manchester City. His delivery and attacking threat would be a welcome addition to City’s squad. But there is a question mark that surrounds Ait-Nouri as a player.

Defensively, Ait-Nouri does struggle at times. Especially against quality right wingers. That has been seen during his time at Wolves. Given that he is only 23 years of age this side of his game should improve. But it is fair to say that Ait-Nouri is an attacking full-back rather than a solid defensive option at the position.
