Abdoulaye Kanté joins ASSE on loan from Middlesbrough as first winter signing

ASSE have completed their first signing of the winter window, bringing in Abdoulaye Kanté on loan with an option to buy. The deal was confirmed on Friday morning.

The club said the 20-year-old Ivorian, who grew up in the Paris region, has been tracked for months and fits the defensive midfield profile they sought, a ball-winner capable of bringing experience in this division.

Kanté joins from Middlesbrough of the Championship, where he has only made four short appearances this season.

He knows Ligue 2 well after two campaigns with Troyes, playing 47 matches.

The move addresses a long-standing midfield need that had become more pressing after Jaber’s recent injury at Reims, although the Israeli is not expected to miss many games.
