Former Blue Steve Sidwell believes Chelsea would have the best chance at winning the Premier League in a long time if they signed PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Chelsea have had a brilliant summer in which they won the Club World Cup, and they’ve added four exciting players to the squad.

The Blues have completed deals for Jorrel Hato, Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, but they aren’t done just yet.

Sidwell thinks Donnarumma makes Chelsea serious contenders

Chelsea are looking to sign both Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho to complete their revamp in attack, whilst it’s believed they won’t sign a replacement for the injured Levi Colwill.

Supporters are largely pleased with the business done this summer, but fans would really like to see a new goalkeeper signed.

Chelsea had the opportunity to sign Mike Maignan earlier this summer, but they weren’t prepared to meet AC Milan’s £20-£25m valuation.

However, Donnarumma is set to leave PSG this summer, and is rumoured to be available for £26m, and Sidwell thinks the Italian could make the difference for Chelsea.

“I would say Chelsea,” he told Sky Sports Premier League when asked who needs Donnarumma more between the Blues and Manchester United.

“If Chelsea get him, they’ve got the biggest chance to win the Premier League title in a long time. What he did last season was absolutely incredible.

“I’ve seen [Robert] Sanchez when I was at Brighton, and I always had a question mark on him at Chelsea.

“I think if they get Donnarumma, it is huge, especially for the players in front of him – the defenders, the whole squad.”

Chelsea unlikely to move for PSG star

However, it appears Chelsea are unlikely to make a move for Italy’s number one, and it’s been reported the Blues aren’t in conversations over a move for Donnarumma.

It seems Donnarumma could be on his way to Manchester City, providing Pep Guardiola’s side can sell Ederson, who’s attracting interest from Galatasaray.

As things stand it’s looking highliy unlikely the Blues will sign Donnarumma, or any keeper, and they look set to go with the same options they had last season.
