Vaclav Cerny has found himself as the centre of attention coming out of the recent Glasgow Derby at Parkhead despite neither scoring nor assisting on the day. Instead, it is because of an incident that took place after Hamza Igamane's winner for the visitors. The Czech winger appeared to spray water towards the Celtic fans while celebrating the goal.
Naturally, it has not gone down well with the Celtic fans or the club itself. The Hoops have already confirmed in an official statement that they have raised concerns regarding members of the away team engaging with the supporters with the relevant authorities.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Cerny. There have been some suggestions that he might be handed an eight-game ban for his actions.
On the other hand, Cerny has given his side of the story. He is currently away on international duty. And as reported by the Irish Mirror, when asked about the incident by Prague outlet iSport Blesk, he said:
"I don't want to say too much, I can't. I find it a bit absurd."The stands are so close, to have open water... I didn't even know what was happening at that moment. I just ran. It's a derby."
If Cerny is handed an eight-game ban then we might never see him turn out for the Rangers in domestic competitions again. That is because he is only on loan at Ibrox at the moment, from Bundesliga club Wolfsburg.
Of course, it is possible that the Rangers try to sign him on a permanent basis in the summer. He has put up decent numbers for them this season. It will surely be very interesting to see the atmosphere at Celtic Park, if he does play there again in the future.
For now, Celtic have to shift their focus towards the remaining games in hand. They have eight more matches to play in the league. Brendan Rodgers' side will also be hoping to win the Scottish Cup, as they have made it to the semis of the competition. Succeeding on both ends will see them complete another treble.
