Arsenal are thinking longer term about who will succeed Gabriel Magalhaes, and RB Leipzig’s Castello Lukeba is on their radar, according to The Times.
The 28-year-old Gunners centre-back has had knee issues, and it appears Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is already preparing for life without the Brazilian at the Emirates Stadium club.
The tough-tackling Lukeba has been one of the best players in the Bundesliga in his position, and the North London club could do with the services of the 23-year-old Frenchman.
However, it remains to be seen if Arsenal will come for him this summer or wait until much later before making a concrete move.
The Gunners are expected to strengthen in attack this summer and they have been offered AC Milan’s Rafael Leao.
The 26-year-old Portuguese wants to leave Serie A ahead of next season and a move to the Premier League could appeal to him.
Leao has 80 goals and 65 assists in 227 league games in the Italian top-flight.
Passing and dribbling are his major strengths, and Arsenal could do with such a player in their ranks.
They could sell Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard this summer, and reinforcements are needed.
Arteta will also look to strengthen in the middle of the park, and they have West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes, Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali and Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi on their radar.
Myles Lewis-Skelly is also expected to step up and play regularly in midfield rather than left-back after impressing in his natural position in recent weeks.
Arsenal came up short in the final of the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain and in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.
They need quality squad depth and adding two or three top players to the team could help boost their chances of winning more silverware next term.
