Achraf Hakimi to lodge cassation appeal after rape trial referral | OneFootball

Achraf Hakimi is to lodge a cassation appeal after the Versailles Court of Appeal confirmed his referral to a criminal court for the rape of a young woman in 2023.

According to Le Progres, the Paris player has chosen to take the case to the Court of Cassation a week after that confirmation. The cassation process can prompt a fresh examination of the legal grounds of his case or seek recognition of procedural irregularities.

His lawyer, Fanny Colin, declined to comment when contacted. In mid-June she said he remained firm in his defence and had much to say.

Speaking on Wednesday in the mixed zone, Hakimi said he was going through a very good period personally and professionally, felt well supported and viewed this as one of the most important moments of his career. He added that he hoped to continue in this vein for as long as possible.

This development comes during the World Cup, where the Atlas Lions captain is impressing on the pitch. Morocco face the Netherlands in the last 32 overnight from Monday to Tuesday.
