Santos head coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda faces a fresh setback, with centre-back Adonis Frías a doubt for Sunday’s Campeonato Paulista match against Noroeste after going off at half-time against São Paulo in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
According to Globo.com, the Argentine felt discomfort in his right calf. João Basso replaced him, making his first appearance of the season, and Frías is due to undergo imaging tests on Thursday.
Before the change he had impressed, playing a key part in Santos’ goal. Frías struck from outside the box and goalkeeper Rafael parried, then midfielder Zé Rafael, Santos’ number six, turned in the rebound.
Vojvoda is already without midfielders Gustavo Henrique, out with a right adductor injury, and Willian Arão, following surgery to remove a kidney stone. Attacking midfielder Thaciano is back on the grass in a transition phase and remains a doubt.
There is also hope over Neymar’s return. Santos’ number ten has recovered from surgery on the meniscus in his left knee and has been training with team-mates. His last outing was the final round of the 2025 Brasileirão against Cruzeiro on seven December, when he played through the pain to aid the relegation fight.
