AFC says no notice of Iran withdrawing from 2026 World Cup | OneFootball

The Asian Football Confederation says it has received no notice of Iran withdrawing from the 2026 World Cup, and that, for now, the Iranian federation has confirmed the team’s participation.

According to L'Équipe, AFC secretary general Windsor John said in Kuala Lumpur on Monday that the decision ultimately rests with Iran’s federation.

He described the situation as highly emotional and said there had been many reactions.

John added that Iran are AFC members and the confederation want to see them play. He noted they have qualified and expressed hope the federation resolves its issues so the team can take part.

If Iran do participate, their three group matches will be in the United States, with two in Los Angeles and one in Seattle. The tournament begins on 11 June.
