Nizaar Kinsella has just given an update on the short term and the long term future of Carney Chukwuemeka.

In the short term, the midfielder will be staying with Borussia Dortmund. The loan that started in January has been extended to cover the rest of their spell in the Club World Cup.

He’s fallen out of favour a little over his time with the Germans, but has come off the bench in all their CWC games so far, as they qualified for the second round with two wins and a draw.

Chukwuemeka extension could be short lived

Borussia Dortmund plans agreed for Carney Chukwuemeka.

Of course there’s no guarantee that that stay will be very long – Dortmund face Mexicans Monterrey late tonight and could already be sent packing by the time most Chelsea fans wake up.

But if they go further, he could yet have some exciting moments to come. He’s a player who is capable of some pretty special moments, especially when his team needs a goal.

Chukwuemeka still close to Chelsea exit

Kinsella’s update on Chukwuemeka’s long term future says he will still be leaving, both Dortmund and Chelsea, in all likelihood.

Chelsea’s idea “remains to sell Chukwuemeka this summer,” and the Germans are “unlikely to pay Chelsea’s asking price.” They would be interested in taking him on loan again next season, or even buying him if our asking price “drops significantly.”

Chelsea’s determination to sell the midfielder has long mystified some – he had impressed when given a chance and been unlucky with a bad injury. It’s never quite been clear why the club have written him off so thoroughly, but they’ve made their mind up.

We expect some offers for a player of his talents, possibly undervalued now after playing so little for the last few years, but still just 21.
