Ajax are closing in on the signing of Monaco left-back Caio Henrique, a move that could affect the future of Barcelona youngster Jofre Torrents, who had also been linked with a switch to the Eredivisie.
According to reports from France, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo, Monaco and Ajax are in the final stages of negotiations for the Brazilian defender, with the transfer expected to be completed for around €10 million plus up to €3 million in bonuses.
The only remaining step is reaching an agreement with the player over personal terms.
The 29-year-old joined Monaco from Atletico Madrid in 2020 for €8 million and has established himself as one of the club’s most consistent performers.
During his five seasons in the Principality club, he has made 211 appearances, scoring three goals and providing 41 assists.

Ajax see the experienced Brazilian as their priority solution at left-back, preferring an established option as they continue rebuilding under their new sporting structure.
Barcelona youngster Torrents had also emerged as a candidate for Ajax. The Catalan club are actively looking for a loan move that would allow the 19-year-old to continue his development after a campaign interrupted by injury.
Last season was one of contrasts for the full-back. He spent time with Hansi Flick’s first-team squad, featured for Barça Atletic, and eventually saw his progress halted by an ankle injury.
Now fully recovered, the club believes regular minutes elsewhere would be the ideal next step.
Despite their pursuit of Caio Henrique, Ajax may not be finished strengthening the position.

The arrival of Michel as manager and the influence of sporting director Jordi Cruyff could lead the Dutch club to seek additional options on the left flank.
That scenario would keep the door open for Torrents, although his immediate move to Amsterdam now appears less likely with Caio Henrique emerging as Ajax’s preferred target.
Barcelona remain convinced of Torrents’ potential and continue searching for the best destination to help one of La Masia’s promising defenders continue his development.
