Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli are weighing up a move for former Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou.
According to the Telegraph, the Australian is among the names being considered by the club’s top board.
Postecoglou is currently out of work after parting ways with Tottenham at the end of a mixed season. He was dismissed despite leading the club to their first trophy in 17 years.
Tottenham finished 17th in the Premier League, far below expectations. However, Postecoglou lifted the mood by guiding Spurs to the Europa League title.
Despite the club’s success in Europe, their league position ultimately cost him his job.
Al-Ahli’s current manager Matthias Jaissle could leave this summer.
The 37-year-old German manager led the club to the AFC Champions League title in May. His side beat the Japanese team Kawasaki Frontale in the final, capping off a strong campaign.
Jaissle worked with a talented squad that included Ivan Toney, Roberto Firmino, Riyad Mahrez and Edouard Mendy. He is now being tipped to return to Europe for a fresh challenge.
Al-Ahli are keen to plan ahead in case he departs, and Postecoglou is a strong candidate. The Australian coach has a history of success and international experience, which suits the club’s ambitions.
Postecoglou is also no stranger to Asian football, having previously worked in the region.
He was in charge of Australia’s Under-20 team before managing the senior national side. He also took charge of Japan’s Yokohama F Marinos.
