In a press release issued on Monday, the Confederation of African Football condemned the incidents that occurred on Sunday in Cairo during the Al Ahly vs FAR Rabat match in the CAF Champions League.

The African governing body announced the opening of disciplinary proceedings, stating that the case is now on the Disciplinary Committee’s desk and “anyone found to be involved will be subject to the sanctions stipulated in the regulations.”

The incidents took place on Sunday during the Al Ahly vs FAR Rabat clash (0-0) in the final round of the CAF Champions League group stage. Egyptian fans hurled numerous bottles and other objects onto the pitch, disrupting the match and jeopardizing the safety of all involved.

Both teams advanced together to the quarter-finals of the competition.
