The Roshn Saudi League has a new leader after Al Hilal defeated Damac on Sunday night to usurp Riyadh rivals Al Nassr at the top of the table.
The 2023-24 champions made the most of Al Nassr’s first loss of the campaign on Friday, when they saw off Damac 2-0 in Abha.
Goals on either side of half-time from Darwin Nunez and Marcos Leonardo ensured Al Hilal remain the season’s only unbeaten team. In fact, Simone Inzaghi’s side have won their past nine on the bounce in the RSL.
As it stands, Al Hilal lead the standings for the first time this term. They sit one point clear of Al Nassr after 13 rounds, with third-placed Al Taawoun three points further back.
Speaking after his team claimed top spot on Sunday, Inzaghi said: “We were good. We played a mature game; we didn't concede anything to a team that didn't lose in six games; they scored 12 times in the last 13 games.
“So it wasn't an easy game, but we approached it well and deservedly won. We are at the top of the table. Thank God we got out of this game without any injuries.”
The RSL returns on Thursday, when Al Hilal open Matchweek 14 with a home clash against Al Hazem, while Al Nassr play later that night when they welcome a resurgent Al Qadsiah to Al Awwal Park.
And, remember, Al Hilal and Al Nassr face off in the Capital Derby in the following round, on January 12.
