Alan Shearer includes Sunderland pair in Premier League Team of the Season so far | OneFootball

According to Sunderland Echo, Alan Shearer has named Sunderland pair Granit Xhaka and Robin Roefs in his Premier League Team of the Season so far.

The Black Cats have exceeded expectations after promotion in the summer, sitting 10th with 30 points from 21 matches, five points off the top four.

Their start follows a sweeping rebuild, 14 signings for more than £150 million, many settling quickly, with Xhaka and Roefs particularly prominent.

Xhaka has taken the captaincy, contributed five assists and one goal from central midfield, and set the tone as a standard bearer.

Roefs has impressed with commanding displays, sharp shot stopping and penalty saves.

Shearer said it was hard to believe Roefs is 22 and playing his first Premier League season, praising his performances and noting seven clean sheets. Regarding Xhaka, he said the switch from the Bundesliga to Wearside surprised some but has proved inspired, highlighting his passing range and leadership on and off the pitch.

The rest of his XI features Arsenal’s Jurrien Timber and Gabriel Magalhaes, Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella and Moises Caicedo, Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, and Manchester City forwards Phil Foden and Erling Haaland.
