The League One fixture felt more like a Premier League game thanks to the hype surrounding it, with Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney coming up against a Birmingham City side backed by NFL superstar Tom Brady, meaning it was a fixture that piqued the interest of people around the world.

As such, Beckham was in attendance at St Andrew's, sitting next to Brady with the pair caught by the Sky Sports cameras on numerous occasions throughout the game.

The 115-cap England international bought MLS expansion team Inter Miami in 2014, and is currently the club's president and co-owner, helping to bring the likes of Luis Suárez and Lionel Messi to the club in recent years.

However, ex-Newcasle United striker Shearer has backed Beckham to invest in an English club, and believes it would be huge for football here.

Former Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers and England striker Shearer has backed Beckham to invest in an English club after he was seen at St Andrew's, following the success that he's had stateside with Inter Miami.

He told Betfair via the Daily Mirror: "We've seen what David Beckham has done with Inter Miami, bringing Lionel Messi to the club, and what that has done for soccer over in America.

"When you put Messi together with the brand David Beckham has, then it is huge for football, and it would be huge for an English side if Beckham were to invest here too."

Shearer also believes that high-profile owners like Wrexham's Hollywood duo and Tom Brady at Birmingham City are a good thing for the EFL as it'll help raise the profile of the leagues around the world.

The former England striker said: "When you've got high-profile owners who are determined to make a statement, and when you look at what Birmingham have spent, and where Wrexham have come from to where they are now, they're both great stories.

“You're getting David Beckham sitting next to Tom Brady, with Rob McElhenney also in Birmingham on the same night, and the pictures of the three of them have been beamed all over the world, so it's great for the EFL.”

There are plenty of EFL clubs who'd love David Beckham to invest in them

With a net worth of a reported $450million (approximately £340million), it's fair to say that Beckham has a considerable amount of money which would be gratefully received by plenty of EFL clubs.

It's fair to say that the majority of clubs in the EFL don't quite have the pull of Miami, so it's unlikely that he'd be able to bring players like Messi and Suarez to a club if he were to invest in one, but the money would help clubs significantly and the chance to work with Beckham would be a real pull in recruiting players.

Whether Beckham takes Shearer's advice or not remains to be seen, but surely the atmosphere and quality of the game at St Andrew's on Monday night would have done no harm in encouraging him to invest in a club on this side of the pond.
