Manchester United are reportedly set to face competition from Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Hilal in the race to sign Fiorentina striker Moise Kean.
The bulk of United’s transfer business has so far been concerned with bolstering Ruben Amorim’s attacking department after a 2024/25 season in which goals were in short supply.
After tying up a deal for Matheus Cunha, who has already joined the club from Wolverhampton Wanderers, United are now actively working to secure the services of Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo. United have already had two bids rejected for the Cameroonian but there is still optimism that an agreement will be struck just in time for the United States pre-season tour later this month.
United are then expected to shift their attention towards recruiting a top-class striker. Rasmus Hojlund endured another difficult campaign, scoring only four Premier League goals. There is a general consensus that the Dane does not have what it takes to lead the line for the club and to be competitive, Ruben Amorim needs a new talisman.
Having missed out on first-choice target Liam Delap the Red Devils have been forced to cast a wider net, which has seen them linked to the likes of Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko, Ollie Watkins and of course, Moise Kean.
Once tipped as one of the best talents in his age group, Kean’s career stalled after terrible spells at Paris Saint-Germain, Everton and Hellas Verona.
However, he has since turned things around and is enjoying a dramatic change in fortunes at Fiorentina.
Signed for just €13m last summer, Kean has more than repaid this transfer fee, scoring 25 goals and providing an additional three assists for Fiorentina.
A physically imposing striker with blistering pace and dazzling technical skills, Kean was a constant nightmare for Serie A defenders.
A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United have been making regular checks on the 25-year-old, ahead of a potential swoop. There is a belief that he is open to a switch to Old Trafford.
Kean is protected by a €52m (£44.1m) release, which is only valid until July 15. When this deadline passes, Fiorentina will have the prerogative to demand whatever they want for the Italy international.
So far, United’s biggest competitor for Kean has appeared to be Al-Qadsiah. There have even been suggestions that Al-Qadsiah have presented the player with a lucrative proposal, in the hope of convincing him to snub European interest in favour of joining their ranks.
Now, according to journalist Matteo Moretto, there is a new party that has entered the fray for Kean: Al-Hilal.
Moretto wrote on X, “Al-Hilal is inquiring about Moise Kean’s situation.”
“Contacts are ongoing.”
It’s well-known that Al-Hilal have been searching for a big-name striker and having missed out on Osimhen, it seems they have turned their attention to Kean.
This development is a real danger for United, who may have to move swiftly if they want to avoid being beaten to his signing.
