Alavés beat a rotated Barcelona 1-0 on matchday 36, climbing out of La Liga’s relegation zone and tightening an already frantic survival race. Two games remain.

According to L'Équipe, Alavés are up to 15th on 40 points, one clear of four clubs, with Girona 19th, Levante 18th, Mallorca 17th and Elche 16th all on 39. Espanyol in 14th, Valencia 13th and Osasuna 12th have 42 and are not yet safe.

Sevilla eased their own fears with a 3-2 win at third-placed Villarreal after trailing 2-0 by the 20th minute. Former Montpellier forward Akor Adamas struck the decisive goal on 72 minutes, lifting Sevilla to 10th on 43 points.

They are not officially safe, but a four-point cushion and, crucially, seven teams between them and the drop looks a healthy buffer. The run-in features direct duels, Levante v Mallorca, Osasuna v Espanyol, then Girona v Elche. Real Oviedo, 20th, are already consigned to the Segunda División.

Further up the table, Getafe moved closer to Europe with a 3-1 victory over Mallorca. Pepe Bordalás’s side scored three in a game for the first time in a year, doing so from six shots and 40% possession, as former Lyon forward Martin Satriano netted twice. With Athletic, ninth, losing 0-2 to Espanyol, Getafe are close to sealing a European berth.
